Global Climate-Strike ACTIONS/EVENTS  –  TAOS

Sept 18-19 (WED & THURS) 9:30-1:10pm   Adobe Rain Planter Gardening in Taos High School Eco-Farm Orchard  Learn basic adobe techniques, soil dynamics, and how to use inexpensive materials to create an adobe planter that catches rain and lets the water do the work to keep a garden going through the summer. Sept 20 (FRI) 11:30-1:30, Santa Fe    CONVERGE ON THE CAPITOL – Carpooling available between 9:00- 9:15 am at St. James Episcopal Church south parking lot – drivers (particularly those with electric vehicles) and riders welcome.  If you are going, come by and take others with you to lessen our carbon footprint.

SEPT 21 (SAT) 1-5pm, Questa   Earth Building @ RYNO site just N of the Questa Chevron  Service Project: Help make adobe bricks to restore an old adobe house to become a Center for Hope & Healing in Questa at RYNO (Rewire Yourself w New Opportunities). Sept 22 (SUN) 5-8pm   Pollinator Concentrator Public Art Opening, Rio Fernando Park, 410 La Posta Road, Taos.   An collaborative ecological art project responding to the biological crisis of pollinator loss, with the students of TISA (Taos Integrated School of the Arts). After sunset during the opening, a UV lighting element within a dish will be activated to attract pollinators from around the park.

SEPT 23 (MON) 12-5pm Art Unveiling & Talk @ Vagrant Hearts Gallery   Art Opening for Climate Consciousness — powerful new climate art from featured artist Dmitri Kadiev as well as new originals from Scripture and Jisk-27. RSVP to vagranthearttaos@gmail.com.

SEPT 26 (THURS) 7:30pm   Science on a Sphere @ First Presbyterian Church, downtown Taos.  NOAA’s  science & earth care multi-media resource that visualizes land, air, water, and energy – how they work and human’s impact on climate change. Not to be missed! RSVP to davewass1948@gmail.com

 

SEPT 27 (Friday) All day  Taos County Fossil Fuel Boycott- stop living “life as usual” for a day to raise awareness of the crises (suggested actions: don’t buy gas; carpool or ride a bike instead of driving; avoid buying plastic or Styrofoam; avoid using propane or natural gas; don’t use electricity during peak hours)

SEPT 28 (SAT) 10am-4pm   Solar Design & Food Forest OPEN HOUSE, 78 Torres Rd in Talpa/RanchosDeTaos. Tour passive & active heat and hot water systems & food forest with over 70 species planted, water conservation methods, and permaculture principles.
